Located in the beautiful community of Sandy Bay, Saskatchewan, Mikisew Preschool Corporation is a warm and nurturing environment where young children begin their learning journey. We are dedicated to providing a safe, healthy, and culturally rich space where children can explore, play, and grow together.
đŋ Culture & Language
At Mikisew Preschool, we believe in grounding our children in their cultural heritage.
· Cree Language: We incorporate the Cree language into our daily routines, including counting together and having Cree words displayed on furniture and items around our facility.
· Cultural Activities: While we are growing our formal language programs, our amazing Educational Assistants (EAs) ensure that a cultural activity is incorporated into the children's day, every single day.
𧸠Education & Daily Learning
We focus on building a strong foundation for lifelong learning through guided play and exploration.
· Teaching Circles: Our EAs host a teaching circle every day. During this time, children learn about the 7 Teachings and engage with the Moe the Mouse speech and language curriculum to build early literacy skills.
· Physical Activity: We believe in the power of fresh air! Our children go outside twice a day, every day, to run, play, and stay active.
đ Health & Nutrition
We know that healthy bodies fuel growing minds.
· Healthy Meals: Our cook follows the Canada Food Guide to prepare healthy, balanced meals for the children. A typical lunch might include a hearty roast with potatoes, and snacks feature fresh, healthy options like smoothies, oranges, and apples.
· Traditional Foods: We love incorporating traditional foods into our menu. You can often find bannock and soup being served! We are also always looking for opportunities to bring in more traditional Indigenous foods for the children to try.

We view our families as essential partners in a child's education.
· Parent Nights: We host regular parent nights to connect with families and provide updates on their child's learning and progress.
· Family Activities: Twice a month, we invite parents and family programs to come into the preschool to participate in fun, hands-on activities with their children.
· Community Play: We are lucky to be situated across from the Breaking Trails facility. We love utilizing this nearby space for children to play and explore alongside their families, and we hope to continue growing this connection.
