Located in the welcoming community of La Ronge, Saskatchewan, Kikinahk Headstart is a safe, nurturing, and culturally rich environment where young children and their families grow and learn together. We are incredibly proud to have been a part of our community for over 30 years, helping our little ones build a strong foundation for their future.

 

🌿 Culture, Language & Land-Based Learning

​

We believe that grounding children in their culture builds confidence and a strong sense of identity.

• Cree Language: Our instructors teach the Cree language daily, ensuring our children hear and speak their traditional language.

• Hands-On Traditions: We bring culture to life through hands-on activities like making bannock, preparing jam with berries, beading necklaces, and enjoying plenty of outdoor activities.

• Community Cultural Camps: We proudly participate in the local community school's cultural camps, where children learn deeply about traditional teachings and cultural aspects. We also highly value Elder involvement in our programming.

🧸 Education & School Readiness

Our program is designed to give children a head start on their educational journey.

• A Two-Year Journey: Children attend our program for two years to prepare them for Kindergarten. We are so proud of the amazing progress our little ones make and love watching them succeed.

• Daily Routine: We focus on early academics, helping children adjust to a daily routine that prepares them for the school environment.

 

🍎 Health, Nutrition & Well-Being

We focus on the holistic well-being of every child.

• Healthy Habits: We run a comprehensive Nutrition Program and focus on Health Promotion to keep our kids thriving.

• Support Services: We also provide Transportation to ensure children can access our programs easily.

 

🤝 Family & Community Support

​

We believe that when families connect, everyone grows. We offer a welcoming space for children and families to come together, interact, and learn the six core components of Head Start.

• Family & Parent Engagement: We love watching families see the amazing progress their children make over their two years with us. We offer ongoing family support and community outreach.

• Community Partnerships: We are proud to partner with the Kikinahk Friendship Centre, which offers additional programs for families. Together, we host an annual CHILDFIND celebration for the whole community!

• Milestones & Celebrations: We recently celebrated 15 graduates from our Head Start program, and our partner, the Kikinahk Friendship Centre, celebrated its 50th anniversary this July!

 

🌟 Looking to the Future

We are always dreaming of new ways to celebrate our children and families. We are looking forward to incorporating more traditional events in the future—such as learning to prepare moose meat, smoke fish, and hosting a year-end Pow-Wow to celebrate the children's achievements!
