Welcome to Caring Nest Aboriginal Head Start

Located in the heart of Regina at 445 Broad St. North, Caring Nest Aboriginal Head Start is a vibrant, culturally grounded learning environment dedicated to nurturing Indigenous children's growth and supporting their families. We are proud to offer a space where tradition meets early childhood education, guiding our little ones through a holistic, land-based approach.

 

🌿 Our Philosophy & Curriculum

At Caring Nest, we believe in building a strong foundation through culture and connection.

· Rooted in Tradition: Our curriculum is based on the 7 Grandfather Teachings.
· Language & Culture: Indigenous languages (Cree, Saulteaux, Michif) are woven seamlessly into our daily routine, from morning greetings and talking circles to counting and labelling everyday items.
· Land-Based Learning: We believe in the power of the outdoors. Going outside daily is mandatory at our center, allowing children to learn directly from the land.
· Early Literacy & Numeracy: We incorporate letters and numbers into everyday activities and utilize the "Moe the Mouse" curriculum to teach sounds and speech in a fun, engaging way.

 

🍎 Health, Nutrition & Wellness

We prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of every child in our care.

· Healthy Habits: We focus on cleanliness and personal responsibility, teaching children to wash their own dishes and maintain healthy daily routines.
· Cultural Nutrition: Our menu follows the Indigenous Canada Food Guide. We emphasize traditional foods based on the season, and we love getting the children involved in preparing these meals together as a class.
· Active Play: Daily physical activity is a priority, whether it’s in our gym or outdoors.
· Family Meals: We provide daily nutritious meals and snacks, and we host monthly family gatherings so loved ones can join us for a meal.

 

🤝 Supporting Families & Community

We believe that a child thrives when their family and community are supported.

· Open Door Policy: Parents and caregivers are always welcome to join their child’s class at any time. We encourage families to volunteer for outings or share their own talents (like sewing!) with the children.
· Community Connections: We connect families with valuable resources, including housing support, mentoring, and baby programs. We also refer families to specialized services like Speech Therapy and SLED when needed.
· Local Partnerships: We actively partner with community organizations such as the North Central Family Centre, as well as local fire and police services, to enrich our children's experiences.
· Community Events: We host several community events throughout the year to bring everyone together.

· Enrollment: We accommodate up to 75 children total (45 in the A.M., 45 in the P.M.), with an average yearly enrollment of 85+ children.

Class & Staff Hours:

· Staff Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
· A.M. Class: 8:45 AM – 11:15 AM
· P.M. Class: 12:45 PM – 3:15 PM
· Full Day Class: 8:45 AM – 3:15 PM
